Holland's history: cultural trips away from mass tourism

Holland (technically speaking: The Netherlands) is a small country with a rich diversity of historical buildings and landscapes. Medieval cities, endless man-made pastures (‘polders’), rich castles,  churches, forts and  gorgeous houses.  And of course,  lots of water. Holland has a lot to offer the interested traveller.

We create tailor-made tours to the most beautiful places in the country, from the famous highlights to the hidden gems. You choose when and where you want to go, we will plan the trip for you. Travelling on your own accord of fully guided. Either way, you will get to see the best places and hear the full story.

A few examples:

  • Not to be missed: Amsterdam and surroundings. Visit three UNESCO World Heritage sites in two or three days: the 17th Century Canal Ring Area in Amsterdam, the Beemster Polder and the Defence Line of Amsterdam.
  • Enjoy the medieval city of Utrecht with its Dom Tower and beautiful canals. Combine it with a relaxing day or two outside the city center to discover the surrounding landscape, with its historic castles and forts and gorgeous 17th century estates along the river Vecht.
  • Windmills of Kinderdijk. Over a third of The Netherlands is lying below sea level. There is no better place than Kinderdijk (UNESCO World Heritage) to see how the Dutch kept their feet dry since medieval times. Perfect day trip in combination with a visit to Dordrecht, oldest city of Holland and birthplace of the Dutch Reformation in the 17th century. Or combine with lunch in a gorgeous 18th century estate (private house) near Rotterdam.
  • Explore the real Dutch countryside with its endless flat ‘polders’, pastures and waterways.  Go for a bike ride or enjoy the landscape from the air, in a helicopter, hot air balloon or small airplane. Enjoy diner at a lovely private dining restaurant in beautiful Gouda and use the next day to explore this small medieval city, world famous for its cheese.
  • Visit fortified cities and defence lines in Zeeland, Brabant and Gelderland. They were created during the Dutch Republic as a defence system against the Spanish and French armies in the 16th to the 18th century.
  • Discover the political heart of The Netherlands in The Hague. International city by the beach, where  Dutch parliament has resided for the last eight hundred years. Perfect combination with a day trip to Delft, a city inextricably linked with the Dutch royal family. Almost every deceased member of the royal family since William of Orange has been interred in the royal crypts at the New Church in Delft.
